<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tire mounting method which can be executed inexpensively, and adapted to various kinds of pneumatic tires. <P>SOLUTION: A tread of a pneumatic tire is gripped by a gripper (2) mounted on a handling device (1) so that the pneumatic tire (R) is mounted on a drop center rim (F), and its first tire bead is allowed to slide on a flange of a rim by the controlled movement of the gripper along the flange, and mounted thereon. Next, the gripper is released from the pneumatic tire, and the pneumatic tire is moved to the initial position for mounting a second tire bead by adjustment members (33, 34). Mounting tools (27, 28, 29) fitted to the gripper are guided along the rim on the rim by the rotation of the gripper around the axis of the rim.
