PURPOSE: A composition containing phloretin is provided to suppress cytochrome P450 enzyme activation, to detoxify aflatoxin B1 and to prevent carcinogenesis due to aflatoxin B1. CONSTITUTION: A composition for inducing glutathione S-transferase contains phloretin(2',4',6'-trihydroxy-3-phydroxyphenylpropiophenone) of chemical formula 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. A composition for suppressing cytochrome P450 contains phloretin of chemical formula 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. A pharmaceutical composition for detoxifying aflatoxin B1 and preventing carcinogenesis due to alfatoxin B1 contains phloretin of formula 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. A method for detoxifying aflatoxin B1 and preventing carcinogenesis due to aflatoxin B1 comprises a step of administering the composition to mammal.
