PURPOSE: A device for sensing the contamination of an optical sensor of a center controlling device and a method thereof are provided to generate an alarm by sensing a contaminated state of an optical sensor of a center controlling device, thereby preventing the telescope generation of a coil caused by errors of the optical sensor by cleaning or replacing the optical sensor. CONSTITUTION: A device for sensing the contamination of an optical sensor of a center controlling device comprises an optical sensor and controlling unit(20). The optical sensor senses an edge position of a coil. The controlling unit receives light receiving signals from the optical sensor. The controlling unit compares the light receiving signals with a reference value, thereby generating an alarm by judging a contaminated state of the optical sensor.
