The purpose of the invention is to provide a windmill that makes a power generation operation possible independently of the presence or absence of a power system and a state of the power system. To solve the above problem, a wind power generation system is equipped with a windmill having: a blade (5) that rotates by receiving wind; a power generator (7) that rotates along with the rotation of the blade (5) and generates power; and an auxiliary machine that controls the pitch angle of the blade (5). The wind power generation system is characterized in that a permanent magnet type generator (12) is mounted and the auxiliary machine is driven by the power generated by a downwind windmill that performs a power generation operation while a blade (10) rotating by receiving wind is oriented in a downwind direction.
