<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a collection amount of particulate substances with the enhanced detecting accuracy of the collection amount, and a collection amount detecting apparatus and an exhaust-emission purifying apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The method includes steps for irradiating a first area including a collection vessel and a second area not including the collection vessel with electromagnetic waves of several tens GHz to several THz, and correcting a principal physical quantity related to an the intensity of the electromagnetic wave which has transmitted the first area by an auxiliary physical quantity related to the intensity of electromagnetic wave which has transmitted the second area.
