PURPOSE: An exhaust gas recirculation system and a control method thereof are provided to open and close an EGR valve according to low and high load states, and to increase work efficiency by smoothly supplying intake air to a combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas recirculation system comprises an exhaust gas recirculation unit and an exhaust gas recovery unit(200). The exhaust gas recirculation unit connects an intake pipe(20) and an exhaust pipe(30). The exhaust gas recirculation unit delivers a part of exhaust gas to the intake pipe. The exhaust gas recovery unit connects the intake pipe and the exhaust pipe. The exhaust gas recovery unit recovers the intake air in the intake pipe to the exhaust pipe.
