<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonization furnace which exhausts thermal decomposition gas smoothly; and a method for operating the same. <P>SOLUTION: A carbonization furnace 1 comprises two side walls 5 and 6 facing each other which are formed along a traveling direction of oxidized fiber formed by carbonizing flame-resistant fiber F in a furnace. One or more exhaust ports 15 and 16 provided in the side walls 5 and 6 are biased to a side of an exit wall 4 in a furnace longitudinal direction and to a region higher than a traveling height of the oxidized fiber. A distance from an exit wall side end of the side walls to an exit wall side end of the exhaust ports is within a range of 20% of the furnace length of the carbonization furnace 1 in the furnace longitudinal direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
