<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolytic decontamination method which can perform electrolytic decontamination of a stainless steel material and reduction of hexavalent chrome by easy operation and which makes repeated use of an electrolyte possible, and a device used for the method. <P>SOLUTION: A stainless steel material W whose surface is contaminated by a radioactive material is immersed in a sodium sulfate aqueous solution as an electrolyte 2. The stainless steel material W is used as an anode and an electric current is supplied between the anode and a cathode 4, so that the surface of the stainless steel material W is electrolyzed and decontaminated. Sodium thiosulfate is added in the electrolyte 2 and a metal hydroxide precipitated in an electrolytic bath 3 is taken out together with the electrolyte 2.
