The adjusting device has a rotary drive (7) and linear actuating movement, which has load-transmitting components. A force or torque is transferred by the load-transmitting components. A part of the load-transmitting components is executed in redundant manner. A load path is formed by a group of load-bearing components, where another load path is formed by another group load-bearing components. A mechanical monitoring unit is provided for detecting errors in one of the load path, particularly for the detection of malfunctions or monitoring of the functionality of the load paths. An independent claim is included for a method for operating an adjusting device, particularly setting device for an aircraft.
