<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for measuring the area that a fluid put on a reference surface occupies. <P>SOLUTION: An area measurement device includes: an irradiation pointer (70) which irradiates a border between a predetermined reference surface (10) where a fluid (20) spreads and the fluid (20) with point irradiation light; a camera (48) for continuous photography which continuously photographs the border between the reference surface (10) and fluid (20) irradiated by the irradiation pointer (70); an area reference body (80) as reference for area calculation fixed to be within a photographic area of the camera (48) for continuous photography; and area calculation means of calculating the area of the fluid (20) encircled with the area reference body (80) in image data continuously photographed by the camera (48) for continuous photography and a track that the point irradiation light traces.
