[Problem] To provide a method for efficiently producing methanol from low grade hydrocarbon such as natural gas, etc. [Solution] This method comprises: a modification step of modifying, under the presence of a catalyst, a low grade hydrocarbon gas to which water vapor and carbon dioxide gas are added and generating a synthetic gas with hydrogen and carbon monoxide as main components thereof; a methanol synthesis step of reacting the synthetic gas obtained by the modification step under the presence of a catalyst and synthesizing methanol; a recycle step of separating methanol synthesized in the methanol synthesis step and joining the rest of the gas which contains unreacted gas as a recycle gas with the synthetic gas; and a hydrogen separation step of separating hydrogen gas from at least a part of the recycle gas and joining the hydrogen gas with the synthetic gas.
