A releasable connector comprises a plug 13 having a prong 21 which is biased by a spring 39 within the sheath 30 of a cooperating socket 17 to provide a good wiping action and a secure grip between the plug and socket. Preferably, the prong is formed of an off-set blade and has an upturned tongue 49 to engage lockingly in an opening 51 in the sheath to hold the plug and socket in engagement. The cross-section of the connector parts is rectangular, the corners 34, 36 of the prong being sharp, whereas those of the sheath are rounded at 37, 38. The bowed spring 39 is retained in the sheath by the spring ends 41, 46 engaging the sheath ends, the end 40 moving away from the sheath when the spring is flexed, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 7, the sheath has a recess 66 which enters an opening 61 in the prong. In other modifications, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), the connecting lug 19 of the plug is replaced by sleeves which are crimped on to cables. |
