Control unit for controlling e.g. six-point Braille module of Braille display used by blind person to read information in monitor, converts primary and secondary information into tactile detectable sign and oscillation pattern, respectively

The control unit (30) converts information to be displayed by a Braille module, into a display pattern. Primary information i.e. alphabetic character, is converted into a tactile detectable sign i.e. Braille sign, by corresponding control of a piezoelectric actuator for extending and/or retracting reading pins (41). Secondary information i.e. formatting information, is converted into an oscillation pattern, which is applied to the actuator for moving the pins. The actuator and an electromagnet (34) pull out the pins from a reading surface independent of each other. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a Braille display (2) a method for controlling a tactile display element (3) a computer program comprising instructions for performing a method for controlling a tactile display element.
