<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a physiologically suitable, natural animal food-meat-like, semi-moist animal foodstuff having a very high meat content, good acceptance and attractive structure for carnivorous animals. <P>SOLUTION: The semi-moist animal food product does not need cereal contents, cereal products and binders. The novel semi-moist animal food product is produced by extrusion cooking, wherein the extruder 10 is charged at least with the following ingredients: (a) at least one component of the group of dry meat, meat meal, dry fish, fish meal, (b) meat and/or fish, (c) optionally water or steam, where not introduced by or in combination with (a) or (b).
