<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new framework for detecting occurrence of jam. <P>SOLUTION: The image scanning device includes the paper feeding device. The paper feeding device has a microphone for detecting sound produced on a paper conveyance path, pre-processes a signal of the sound detected by the microphone, and detects paper jam on the basis of the pre-processed sound signal, a reference value concerning sound intensity, and a reference value concerning the duration of the sound. The pre-processing is processing for extracting the outline of the sound signal.
