The invention relates to the chemical industry in general, particularly being related to the industry for the production, formulation and development of novel insulating coatings for piping and mainly to a water-base liquid composition for coating and thermally insulating fluid piping; the composition is characterised in that it comprises an acrylic resin or a styrenated acrylic resin or an acrylic vinyl resin with a total solid percentage of from about 20% to about 60%; microspheres of glass, ceramic or polymer, or a mixture thereof; loads, additives and water, and optionally comprising fibres, a water hardness controller and dyes, which upon being applied generates a continuous and padded insulating coating film with a thermal conductivity = 0.24 watt/m°K, also having an initial elongation of the film of 20% to 400%, a thickness of 0.4 mm to 1 mm and preferably an average thickness of 0.766 mm (30 mils).
