<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a meter reader which is capable of surely returning an object to be detected to a terminal portion of a conveyer belt by recognizing a detection position and using a return amount corresponding to the detection position. <P>SOLUTION: When an object to be detected containing a mixture of metals such as a metal needle is conveyed by a conveyer belt 1 and the mixture is detected by a detection sensor 2 which detects the mixture in the object to be detected, in a meter reader 10, the conveyer belt 1 is driven oppositely to a conveying direction. The detection sensor 2 is configured to detect the mixture at two or more positions in different distances from a terminal portion 1A of the conveyer belt 1 on the conveyer belt 1.
