A light is controlled to be on or off in dependence upon sensed light levels and sensed movement. The sensor takes the form of an image sensor 2. The light source 1 may be LEDs. Sensors may be connected to each other and/or to a control centre via a communication link, resulting in a distributed safety and security network which can monitor roads, offices and homes and may store visual information about unusual events which might occur such as road traffic accidents and burglary, including events leading up to such an occurrence. Gesture recognition may enable lights to be controlled without contact or even remote controls. |
