<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner having excellent charging characteristics, durable stability and fixing separation property while maintaining fixability, and giving an image free of base contamination, and to provide a developer, a container with toner, a process cartridge, an image forming apparatus and an image forming method using the toner. <P>SOLUTION: The toner contains at least a binder resin and a colorant. The toner includes a protruding portion on a surface of the toner, the protruding portion containing resin fine particles comprising a fluorine-containing vinyl monomer as a structural unit. The content of the fluorine-containing vinyl monomer in the structural monomers of the resin fine particles ranges from 0.5 mass% to 50 mass%. The average length of a long side in the protruding portion is 0.1 μm or more and less than 0.5 μm, and the standard deviation of the average length of the long side in the protruding portion is 0.2 or less.
