<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purity 3-acetyl-9-ethylcarbazole, which is a method other than that using silica gel column chromatography, and which is applicable to industrial production. <P>SOLUTION: It has been found that crude 3-acetyl-9-ethylcarbazole is specifically crystallized when an ester-based solvent has been used.
