The present invention provides a liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display device that have a sufficiently faster response and sufficiently superior transmittance. The liquid crystal display panel is provided with a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched by both substrates. The first substrate and second substrate each have an electrode. The electrode of the second substrate contains a pair of comb electrodes and a planar electrode. The liquid crystal display panel is configured in a manner so that the liquid crystal molecule in the liquid crystal layer is oriented in the horizontal direction with respect to the substrate primary surface by means of an electric field generated between the pair of comb electrodes or the first substrate and the second substrate.
