Jan. 2, 1953, No. 199/53; Class 51 (2) In a continuous vertical retort for coking coal, the heating system is divided into three zones, namely, a central zone II in. which the heating gas is burnt in flues 6, an upper zone III in which the waste gases passing through flues 7 give off heat to the descending charge in a retort chamber 1 and to incoming combustion air in flues 10, and a lower zone I in which the hot coke is cooled by incoming heating gas passing through flues 3 to a burner port 4 to which the preheated air is delivered by a duct 5. The retort chamber side walls 9 are closer together in the upper zone and are made of cast iron or other material of good heat conductivity. The top of the upper zone is divided longitudinally by hollow partitions into parallel fuel feed passages, Fig. 2 (not shown).</p> |
