<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery using a cadmium anode obtained by adding metal cadmium as a preparatory charging active material so as to achieve both of a high rate discharge characteristic and a charge/discharge cycle characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: An alkaline storage battery 10 includes a cadmium anode formed by applying active material paste containing cadmium oxide to be a main active material, metal cadmium to be a preparatory charging active material and paste as main components to a conductive electrode substrate. The metal cadmium to be the preparatory charging active material is composed of mixed powder of particulate metal cadmium and spongy metal cadmium. Consequently the particulate cadmium is discharged and deactivated at the initial time of discharge start because of high activity, but the spongy cadmium is not discharged at the initial time of discharge start because of low activity, so that a rate of existence as undischarged metal cadmium is increased to the end of discharge and the discharge property of the anode at the end of discharge can be compensated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
