<p>A method of creating a pyroelectric response comprises providing a sample. The sample comprises a material layer comprising a plurality of ferroelectric domains. An electrically conductive tip is provided above the material layer. An electric voltage is applied between the electrically conductive tip and the substrate to pole a region of the material layer between the tip and the substrate. A portion of the material layer outside the region is not poled. A temperature of at least the poled region of the material layer is changed. The temperature change creates a pyroelectric response of the portion of the material layer. The pyroelectric response is detected.</p> |
