<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for determining appropriate output resolution. <P>SOLUTION: A multifunctional machine selects one kind of file format from among multiple kinds of file formats in accordance with the indication of a user. The multifunctional machine determines first resolution as output resolution when the selected file format is the file format having page concept (i.e. PDF (portable document format) or XPS (XML paper specification)), and determines second resolution higher than the first resolution as the output resolution when the selected file format is the file format without having the page concept (e.g. JPEG (joint photographic experts group)). The multifunctional machine allows a scan performance part to perform manuscript scan to generate scan data.
