Rescue harness with fall arresting, controlled lowering and wireless alert functions

Disclosed is a height rescue safety device for a personal safety harness to reduce impact forces when falling. The height rescue apparatus has a fall arrest function and a lowering function, with a flexible load element releasably held in a first position relative to a bracket, a flexible harness element attached to the bracket to retain a harness, one end of a safety line in use being attached to the flexible load element and the other end of the safety line in use being attached to a secure anchorage. A flexible elongate element being secured at one end to the flexible load element and at the other end to at least one speed control means and release means for releasing the flexible load element from said first position, such that when the flexible load element is released the flexible load element is able to move relative to the bracket at a controllable speed so as to provide a controlled speed of descent. The flexible load element and the flexible harness element are in the form of non-metallic or polymer webbing straps.
