<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of preventing phase difference change of a phase difference compensation plate, eliminating color unevenness or the like due to the phase difference change at a center part and an end part of a display area in a liquid crystal light valve, and avoiding reduction in quality of a display device, by suppressing adsorbing and desorbing of moisture at an end part of the phase difference compensation plate. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device comprises: a light source for emitting a plurality of color light beams; a plurality of reflection type liquid crystal light valves of vertical alignment mode for modulating the plurality of color light beams; phase difference compensation plates provided at the respective liquid crystal light valves and having columns 81 inclined in substantially one of in-plane directions of the liquid crystal light valve; a color synthesis optical system for synthesizing the color light beams modulated by the liquid crystal light valves; and a projection optical system for projecting the light synthesized by the color synthesis optical system. The size of the phase difference compensation plate in substantially one of the in-plane directions in which the columns 81 are inclined is larger than the size of a display area 73 in a liquid crystal light valve 11G in a direction corresponding to the substantially one direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
