SURFACE COATED CUTTING TOOL WITH HARD COATING LAYER HAVING EXCELLENT CHIPPING RESISTANCE AND DEFECT RESISTANCE

摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer exhibiting excellent chipping resistance and defect resistance in high-speed intermittent cutting machining.

SOLUTION: In the surface coated cutting tool formed by vapor deposition of the hard coating layer consisting of (a) a lower layer composed of a Ti compound and (b) an upper layer composed of an aluminum oxide layer on the surface of a tool base body consisting of a WC cemented carbide and a TiCN-based cermet, minute holes of diameters of 2-50 nm with the hole diameter distribution having a bimodal distribution are distributed in the upper layer.
