<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focal plane shutter for a camera, which is configured such that the energization force of a drive spring for rotating a drive member during photographing is applied actively when the drive member itself is braked as well. <P>SOLUTION: In a drive member 6 for a front blade rotated by the energization force of a drive spring 7 for a front blade during photographing, a drive pin 6e is braked during the final stage of the rotation by rotating a first brake member 15 counterclockwise and a second brake member 13 clockwise against the energization force of a coil spring 21 attached to a mounting shaft 1f and the friction resistance force of friction applying means composed of a plate spring 19 and so on mounted on the mounting shaft 1f as well. At this time, an arm part of the drive spring 7 for a front blade contacts a pushed part 15c of the first brake member 15, so that the counterclockwise rotation of the first brake member 15 is restricted.
