<p>The holding brake (1) has a friction element (5), which is connected with a shaft (2) in a torque-proof manner. The friction element lies in a position on a firmly mounted friction surface and is positioned away from the friction surface in another position. A positioning unit is provided for positioning and holding the friction element in both positions. The positioning unit is bistable. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a holding brake.</p>
