<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the energy density by increasing the ratio of the volume in a battery container occupied by an electricity generation element. <P>SOLUTION: The battery 1 comprises a lid 4 which seals the opening of a battery container 2 containing an electricity generation element 3, and collectors 12, 13 which connect the external terminals 14, 15, arranged at least partially on the outside of the lid 4, electrically with the electricity generation element 3. Packings 17, 18 are interposed between the lower surface 4a of the lid 4 and the collectors 12, 13. The caulked portion 17c of the packing 17 is contained in an engaging recess 11a formed in the lower surface 4a of the lid 4.
