PURPOSE: A vehicle navigation device and a method are provided to search a route and guide by considering a high speed road. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle navigation device comprises a map database and a processing unit(2). The map database saves map data including links and attributes. The processing unit is connected to the map database and searches a route based on a first attribute at least and control an output of route guiding information through an user interface based on a second attribute at least. The link expresses a road segment. The first attributes are assigned to sub-sets of each links, thereby indicating that the link being comprised in the sub-set comprises one or more high speed roads. The second attributes are assigned to road of one or more portions of the link comprised in the sub-set, thereby indicating whether each road segment is a high speed road or not.
