680,326. Mine cars. SANFORD INVESTMENT CO. Dec. 15, 1948 [Dec. 23, 1947], No. 32429/48. Class 103 (iv). In a mine car of the type in which the body is reinforced by side sills between which are supported drop bottom doors arranged to open successively, each door is extended laterally in overlapping relation with the adjacent side sills to prevent the loss of lading. Each door 6, reinforced by a flange 7, is located between the side sills 3 and is provided along each lateral edge with a longitudinally extending spring strip 8 which permits movement of the door above the lower face of the sill member during the door locking operation and maintains constant pressure on the lower surface of the sill to seal the gap between members 3 and 7. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), each door 6 is spaced below and in overlapping relation with the lower surface of the sills 3 so that the inner face of each flange 7 is spaced outwardly from the toe of the adjacent sill and the door has sufficient freedom for upward movement to enable the locking mechanism to operate. Specification 639,010 is referred to. |
