PURPOSE: A brake apparatus for an elevator using planet gear sets is provided to accurately stop at a short distance stopping layer by shortening the braking distance. CONSTITUTION: A drive motor(M) includes a controller(CT). A hoist(H) is rotated by the drive motor. A wire rope(R) is supported by a wheel of the hoist. A brake device(B) is combined between the drive motor and the hoist. The output of the drive motor is inputted to the brake device through an input shaft(X1).
