A floor covering comprises a fabric supporting layer 1 to be placed in contact with the floor, a median layer 2 of cellular thermoplastic synthetic resin material of uniform thickness secured to the fabric layer throughout the whole area thereof, and an exterior non-cellular wearing layer 3 comprising the same thermoplastic synthetic resin material as the median layer, secured to the median layer throughout the whole area thereof. The fabric layer may be of linen, glass, cotton, hemp, jute, felt, or other appropriate material, and the synthetic resin may be polyvinyl chloride. As shown, fabric 1 is coated with a given thickness of paste containing synthetic resin and a blowing-agent by means of doctor blade 5 to form layer 2. Layer 2 is blown in heating tunnel 6 and the fabric may be stored as such (Fig. 2), may be passed through a similar coating device where a coating of the synthetic resin is applied, or between rollers 7 and 8 where preformed sheet or film 3 of the synthetic resin is laminated thereto (Fig. 3). |
