<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dishwasher that determines the minimum amount of water that prevents air entrainment from occurring in a washing pump of the dishwasher, and washes dishes only with a necessary and sufficient amount of water. <P>SOLUTION: The dishwasher includes a first water supply 10 in which the amount of water supplied is detected by a water level sensor 13, and a second water supply 14 in which the amount of the water supplied is detected by a flow rate sensor 15. The dishwasher is configured to supply, upon the completion of supplying a certain amount of water from the first water supply 10, water from the second water supply 14 while adapting an optical sensor 6 to check air entrainment, and finishes supplying water when no air entrainment is detected.
