PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Acanthopanax sessiliflorum seeman fruit extract, fraction, compound isolated from the same, or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided to prevent and treat cancer with reduced side effect. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical comosition for preventing and treating cancer contains Acanthopanax sessiliflorum seeman fruit extract as an active ingredient. The extract is methanol extract prepared by dipping Acanthopanax sessiliflorum seeman fruits in 70% ethanol, filtering, and concentrating by reduced pressure. The pharmaceutical composition contains Acanthopanax sessiliflorum seeman fruit fraction as an active ingredient. The fraction is prepared by fractioning the extract with ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The pharmaceutical composition contains compounds isolated from the fraction or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The compound x is acanthosessilioside A of chemcial formula 1, acanthosessilioside I of chemical formula 2, or methyl acanthosessiligenin of chemical formula 3.
