<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing black tea leaves having satisfactory flavors such as obtained by an orthodox process without using a CTC process while reducing the time for a crumpling step. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing black tea leaves substantially without twisting in leaves includes: the crumpling step characterized by obtaining tea leaves in a state substantially without twisting from withered leaves by mechanical treatment such as shearing and friction; a fermentation step; and a drying step.
