PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which performs motion determination suitable for a subject according to a method for detecting the subject from an image signal.

SOLUTION: An image processor includes face detection means for detecting a face from an image signal, unspecified subject detection means for grouping areas for each similar signal component to select an area with a relatively high evaluation value, and determination means for determining the motion of a main subject that is either a face or an unspecified subject. The determination means has a different criterion of determining the motion depending on whether the main subject is an unspecified subject or a face.
