The invention relates to an auto-patch system for interconnecting lines individually with one another with no possibility of blocking through absence of idle paths. The apparatus described uses a link-access switching system so arranged that all the lines can be in use at the same time. The system is described as applied to a computer in which connections are set up and broken down according to a programme. A trunking system using cross-bar switches is used, generally of the automatic telephone type except that there is no limit on the proportion of lines in use at any one time. Source lines SL000-SL479 and receiving lines RL000-RL479 are divided respectively into 24 switching groups of 20 lines each. Each group is connected to the horizontals of primary and secondary switching stages such as PG1, SG1. Each switching stage comprises a pair of associated cross-bar switches with 20 horizontals and 40 verticals. One of the verticals V is used for verification and the others are connected to links extending to separate link group switching stages LG1-LG39. Each of these stages comprises two associated cross-bar switches forming cross-points for 24 verticals and 24 horizontals. Switch controller 800 receives information for the setting-up or breaking-down of a connection from code receiver 700, which is controlled by tape reader 500 or manual controller 600. In setting up a connection controller 800 marks match control conductors MC extending between the primary and secondary stages, a group of primary-operate conductors PO and a single hold conductor between the primary stage and the link stage, all according a preference allotter of the telephone exchange type. The link path preference varies from group to group. In breaking down a connection it is sufficient to release the hold conductor. Failure to make the desired connection, as indicated by a verification test, results in the preference allotter being advanced and the desired numbers remaining in store. The controller then makes a further attempt and a fault indicator 900 shows the progress made. Repeated attempts are made until success is achieved or until the manual controller 600 instructs otherwise. The manual controller may be used to try to establish the connection, cleardown of controller 800 having resulted from the intervention. Alternatively the unsuccessful connection may be abandoned and the rest of the programme continued. U.S.A. Specification 2,577,067 is referred to.</p> |
