In the preparation of a reaction product of castor oil and sulphur monochloride, the oil is cooled to 0 DEG -5 DEG C. and mixed with 10-20% by weight of ammonium, sodium or potassium carbonate or bicarbonate, whereafter 10-25% by weight of sulphur monochloride is added while stirring. The mixture becomes hot and the added carbonate or bicarbonate decomposes. A friable solid product is obtained which can be stabilized by the addition of 0,3-1,0% of magnesium oxide or carbonate. A similar product may also be obtained by reacting rapeseed oil with sulphur monochloride.ALSO:Mouldable P.V.C. compositions are characterized by the presence of a castor oil-sulphur monochloride reaction product (see Group III), the following optional ingredients also being specified:- di-n-octyl or di-isooctyl phthalate or adipate or a reaction product of sulphur monochloride with rapeseed oil as a plasticizer, finely dispersed silica or stearic acid-coated chalk, as a filler, and an organo-tin compound containing a sulphur bridge as a stabilizer. The compositions are suitable for use in floor coverings. |
