NUCLEAR REACTOR CAVITY ARRANGEMENTS FOR ICE CAPACITOR TYPE PLANTS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a containment structure radiation shield body which encircles an upper portion of a pressure vessel in ice capacitor type containment structure of a pressurized-water reactor.

SOLUTION: A neutron shield comprises: a vertical shield wall 46; and a missile shield 50. The vertical shield wall 46 extends vertically above a reactor well substantially to an elevation of an operating deck. The missile shield 50 covers a top of the vertical shield wall 46. The vertical shield wall 46 is composed of a plurality of vertical parts, and its lower section has an air inlet door. The inlet door is operable to open during an outage to enable cooling air flow along a wall near a reactor vessel head.
