<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose acylate film which has small optical anisotropy (Re, Rth), has optical isotropy, and also has small wavelength dispersion of the optical anisotropy (Re, Rth), and to provide especially a cellulose acylate film which has a small amount of the optical anisotropy reducer added and has small optical anisotropy, and to further provide optical materials such as an optical compensation film and a polarizing plate having excellent optical characteristics, and a liquid crystal display using the cellulose acylate film. <P>SOLUTION: The cellulose acylate film has a front retardation value and a retardation value in a film thickness direction (unit: nm) satisfying 0≤Re<SB POS="POST">(630)</SB>≤10 and ¾Rth<SB POS="POST">(630)</SB>¾≤25, respectively, and satisfying ¾Re<SB POS="POST">(400)</SB>-Re<SB POS="POST">(700)</SB>¾≤10 and ¾Rth<SB POS="POST">(400)</SB>-Rth<SB POS="POST">(700)</SB>¾≤35, and has a quantity of residual sulfuric acid of 30 to 150 ppm (in terms of the content of sulfur element).
