<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately determine a focus detection area where focus adjustment is performed. <P>SOLUTION: A focus adjustment device comprises: focus detection means for detecting a focus adjustment state of a photographic optical system in a plurality of focus detection areas set in an image plane 20 of the image-forming optical system; and subject recognition means for recognizing a main subject region (22) in the image plane 20, on the basis of a photographed image by photograph means for photographing a formed image by the image-forming optical system. When there is no focus detection region in a focused state, as a result obtained by performing focusing determination in the focus detection region corresponding to the main subject area (22), the focus detection area where the focus adjustment is to be performed is determined, on the basis of the result of the focusing determination in a focus detection area (23) where focus adjustment has been performed at the previous focus adjustment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
