The device has a control unit (10) comprising a process unit (12), where the process unit is associated with a working memory unit (14). The control unit comprises a data loss prevention unit (18) that prevents loss of data of the working memory unit in a mode of operation of the domestic appliance device, in which the process unit is in a state of reduced power consumption. The data loss prevention unit is separated from another control unit (20) that controls transition between different modes of operation. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a control unit.
