[Problem] To provide a charging device and charging method that involve operating, at a high conversion efficiency, a plurality of power supply circuits that generate power having a predetermined power value, thereby efficiently charging a rechargeable battery. [Solution] The charging device is provided with: an output means that supplies power; a plurality of power-generating means that generate power having a predetermined power value; a detection means that detects the state of the output means; and a control means that controls the plurality of power-generating means on the basis of the state detected by the detection means.
