An organophosphine oxide compound which is represented by general structural formula (1) and which is for use in providing an electron transfer material suitable for the formation by a wet method of an organic EL element with inverted structure. In general structural formula (1), Ar1 to Ar3 are each an aromatic residue, and one or more hydrogen atoms of the aromatic residue are replaced by hydroxyl represented by formula (2): -OH or hydroxyalkyl represented by formula (3): -CnH2n-OH. In formula (3), CnH2n is alkyl (wherein n is a natural number of up to 8) and may be straight or branched.
