The system has a driver module (1) comprising a telecommunication unit connected to a control unit that is connected with a global positioning system type locating unit. The control unit respectively delivers pick-up starting and ending signals, when a radio receiver is in and not in connection with a radio transmitter of a portable passenger module (2) for a minimum preset duration, to signal starting and ending of pick-up of a passenger (P). The control unit delivers the signals and/or location data and passenger and driver identification data to be transmitted to a remote server (4). The passenger module is in the form of a battery assisted radio frequency identification tag or transponder. The radio receiver is a radio frequency identification reader. An independent claim is also included for a carpooling managing method.
