<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer electrolyte membrane having excellent proton conductivity and showing high dimensional stability in hot water, a method for manufacturing the same, and a membrane-electrode assembly and a fuel cell using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A solid polymer electrolyte membrane comprises a polymer (A) and a porous base material (C), at least one kind of polymer selected from the polymer (A) and a polymer (B) constituting the porous base material (C) contains a sulfonic group, and the polymer (A) and the polymer (B) have a specific structural unit.
