<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive mechanism and an image forming apparatus that are relatively inexpensive and excellent in safety. <P>SOLUTION: A drive mechanism is for driving a processing device that carries out predetermined processing, the drive mechanism comprising: a driving source that generates driving force for driving the processing device; a transmission part that transmits the driving force; a case that accommodates the transmission part; and an output part that is connected with the processing device and the transmission part and outputs the driving force to the processing device.
